As the days become shorter and the nights colder, Naxos has announced a new Advent Calendar App, set to launch in December. Like the Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra App, introduced by the Britten-Pears foundation earlier this year, the Naxos App is free to download and features 25 complete tracks behind the numbered doors.
Each day, a new door can be ‘unlocked’ to reveal a piece of seasonal music from Naxos’s classical music catalogue. Tracks feature performances of undiscovered works, Christmas carols and instrumental pieces, including ‘Ding, dong, merrily on high’ and ‘In dulci jubilo’ performed by the Worcester Cathedral Choir, 'Gloria in excelsis Deo' from Vivaldi’s Gloria performed by Schola Cantorum Oxford and the Northern Chamber Orchestra, Mozart’s ‘Sleigh Ride’ from his Three German Dances performed by Capella Istropolitana, and 'Glory to God in the highest' from Handel’s Messiah performed by the Choir of New College Oxford and the Academy of Ancient Music.
The App will be free to download worldwide on iOS and Android devices through iTunes and Google Play from December.
